UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS


Harry S. Truman Scholarship  
Award: Up to $30,000  
Deadline: February 7, 2017.
Eligibility: Open to juniors in the upper quarter of their class with track records in public service and leadership, who intend to enter graduate programs leading to a career in public service.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship  
Award: Maximum of $7,500 annually for undergraduate study.  
Deadline: Berry's Goldwater Faculty Contact must submit your completed application in January 2017. This means students interested in applying must contact Dr. Turlington well in advance of that time. 
Eligibility: Sophomore or junior with outstanding potential and intent to pursue a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. Must have a GPA of at least a “B” and be in the upper fourth of his or her class. U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates Award  
Award: The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program.  
Deadline: Various, depending on the specific project.  
Eligibility: Undergraduate student participants supported with NSF funds must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions. Individual sites may have specific eligibility requirements (see  http://www.nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/reu_search.cfm).

Udall Scholarship  
Award: Up to $5,000  
Deadline: March 15, 2017.  Because you must apply through Berry College, interested applicants must contact Dr. Mowry well in advance of the deadline. 
Eligibility: Sophomore or junior committed to a career related to the environment or in Native American health care or tribal public policy. Must have a GPA of “B” and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship 
(Thomas Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship) 
 
Award: Up to $40,000 annually for tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for senior year of college and first year of graduate study. You must be in your junior year to apply.  
Deadline: The application opens in mid-October; you can anticipate a late December or early January deadline.     
Eligibility: U.S. citizen in junior year of undergraduate study with a GPA of 3.2 or higher with outstanding leadership skills, academic achievement, and demonstrated financial need. Must commit to pursuing a master’s degree in international studies at one of the graduate schools participating in the program and to four years in the foreign service.

EPA Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) Fellowships
Award: Up to $19,700 per academic year, and $9,500 for a three-month summer internship.  
Deadline: Check the website for details. 
Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, have a B average, and be a Sophomore to apply.

Department of Energy (DOE) Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI)
Award: Encourages undergraduates to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers by providing research experiences at Department of Energy (DOE) labs. Selected students participate as interns at one of 16 participating DOE labs where they perform research under the guidance of staff scientists or engineers. 
Deadline: The application for next year's Fall Term should open in mid-March. The application for Spring Term should open in mid-July. The application for Summer Term should open in mid-October.
Eligibility: Must have high school diploma or GED; be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate and have completed one year at the time of the application; a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA; be 18 years or older when internship begins; be  a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident Alien
