Information About Berry's Eagle Cam Video Quality

Zoomed out Eagle CamBerry is excited to provide a live video feed of the eagles' nest area. Although providing an acceptable image has proven challenging, the current feed has been optimized as much as possible for now.

Due to utility locations and restrictions in digging within or disrupting a wide buffer area around the nest, the pole and Web cam were positioned in the middle of the Cage Center parking lot. The image provided to the right shows a non-zoomed image from the camera with a small red square illustrating the nest area.

The camera being used is a high-end Sony SNC-EP550 Network Camera, but the level of zoom used, constantly changing light variations and the camera's sensitivity to wind movement at this height and distance result in a slightly blurry image. Viewers may also notice a slightly wavy image, which is the result of something referred to as "rolling shutter." The camera vendor is looking into this problem. The frame rate of the video stream has been lowered drastically to compensate for this problem.

After nesting season, while the eagles are away from the nest for an extended period of time, Berry plans to mount a camera much higher and closer to the area.
