Pursue the College Mission in Academic Advising

(Goal One, Objective A)

Responses to the Student Satisfaction Inventory and the National Survey on Student Engagement showed that student satisfaction with academic advising is significantly higher than the national norms. The SSI was conducted in spring 2003 with a sample of undergraduate students. The NSSE surveys a sample of freshmen and seniors.

Recruit and Retain Faculty Who Achieve Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship and Service

(Goal One, Objective F)

Faculty members published six books, more than 20 chapters in books or proceedings, and more than 125 articles or scientific abstracts in 2002-2003. They participated in more than 200 presentations at professional conferences and meetings.

Improve Connections/Collaborations/Partnerships Both On and Off Campus

(Goal One, Objective E)

The Multicultural Student Affairs Office worked closely with the National Youth Sports Program at Floyd College and hosted some 400 elementary, middle and high school students on campus during the summer as part of an enrichment program. The office also has representation on the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission and the Human Relations Commission.

Promote a Variety of Off-Campus Work Experiences

(Goal Four, Objective B)

Some 137 companies and organizations participated in the on-campus recruitment program in 2002-2003 that was sponsored by the Career Development Center, with 27 representatives from business/industry, 24 from the public sector, 39 from school systems, and 37 organizations seeking summer employees. More than 6,000 job listings were posted by the center.

Strengthen Co-Curricular and Extracurricular Student Activities That Support the Three-fold Mission

(Goal Six, Objective A)

Statistics reported by student organizations through the Student Activities Office for 2002-2003 showed that more than 7,200 volunteer hours were given to service in the community and almost $20,000 raised for charitable contributions. This total does not include the thousands of hours of service done by Bonner Scholars last year.

Improve and Maintain Residence Halls and Athletic/Recreation Facilities

(Goal Six, Objective D)

A new residence hall was completed and is full for fall 2003. A new maple floor has replaced the carpet on the floor in Richards Gymnasium, which is now hosting Berry's new intercollegiate volleyball-team competition.
