Willis Potts, former chairman of the University System of Georgia Board
of Regents, will be the keynote speaker at the Berry College fall commencement
Saturday, Dec. 14.
celebrates the graduation of approximately 100 students this fall. The ceremony
will begin at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 14, in the Steven J. Cage arena.
Potts began his career as an engineer at the Union Camp
Corporation’s Savannah pulp and paper mill in 1969. He retired in June 2004 as
the vice president and general manager of Rome-based Temple-Inland Corporation,
following a 35-year career in the international pulp and paper industry.
Potts is active with the Floyd County March of Dimes,
Mercy Senior Care in Rome, the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce and the
mentoring program Communities in Schools. He was appointed in March 2006 by
Gov. Sonny Perdue to represent the 11th Congressional district on the Board of
Regents, and served as board chair from July 1, 2010- June 30, 2011. The Board of Regents is a constitutional body that
governs and manages the University System of Georgia.
Drew Dillard, a double major in management and marketing, will be the student
speaker. As he finishes his senior year, Dillard is working at SAI digital, a
marketing and web development firm located in Rome. He is a Cage Scholar, a
member of various honor societies and a Campbell Fellow.
