Prospective Students
Greetings
from the Bonner Scholars Program at Berry College! Our program offers a
unique scholarship opportunity for students interested in fulfilling
the college motto, "Not to be ministered unto, but to minister." Through the Bonner Scholars Program, students engage in community
service as a means to address social need while making their education
affordable.
The following is information that you may find helpful when deciding whether to apply:
- Bonner is a financial need-based scholarship. Based on the information
that you provide in the Free Application for Student Federal Aid
(FAFSA), the federal government will assign you an Estimated Family
Contribution (EFC). Your EFC is the amount of money that the federal
government estimates your family can pay toward your education.
Freshmen Bonner Scholars cannot typically have an EFC of greater than
$7500.
- Bonner is a service
scholarship. As we review applications, we look for students who have
been actively engaged in meaningful service to their communities, faith
groups, and/or families. Bonner Scholars serve at least 140 hours a
semester (10 hours a week) with non-profits, governmental agencies, and
schools in the Rome-Floyd County community. Participation in the Bonner
Scholars Program is in lieu of the on-campus work opportunity. In
addition to service completed during the academic term, students serve
280 hours each summer for two summers in local, state, national, and
international internships.
- Bonner Scholars meet on a regular basis to explore common commitments
of Community Building, Civic Engagement, Diversity, International
Perspective, Spiritual Exploration, and Social Justice. We strive to
identify and develop our passions and skills and apply those passions
and skills to help meet the needs of the world. Our desire is for all
Bonner Scholars to practice Servant Leadership.
