Scholarships for Graduate Study

American Association of University Women Fellowship

  • Award: $5,000 - $12,000 for first year of graduate study
  • Deadline: January 10, 2010
  • Eligibility:
    •  Women who intend to pursue a full-time course of study in one of the designated degree programs where women’s participation traditionally has been low.
    •  U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
     

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship

  • Award: Maximum of $7,500 annually for undergraduate study
  • Deadline: January 31, 2010
  • Eligibility:
    •  Junior or senior with outstanding potential and intent to pursue a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering.
    •  Must have a GPA of at least a “B” and be in the upper fourth of his or her class.
    •  U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Ford Predoctoral Fellowships

  • Award: $20,000 for Ph.D. or Sc.D. program of study
  • Deadline: November 2, 2009
  • Eligibility:
    •  U.S. citizen with evidence of superior academic achievement committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level.
    •  Membership in a group listed as underrepresented in the American professoriate is a positive factor.

George C. Marshall Scholarship

  • Award: University fees, cost of living expenses, annual book grant, and other associated costs
  • Deadline: October 1, 2009
  • Eligibility: U.S. citizens who hold a first degree from an accredited four-year college in the U.S. with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

Harry S. Truman Scholarship

  • Award: Up to $30,000
  • Deadline: February 2, 2010
  • Eligibility: Open to juniors in the upper quarter of their class with track records in public service and leadership, who intend to enter graduate programs leading to a career in public service.

Hertz Fellowship

  • Award: $28,000 plus cost of education annually toward the Ph.D.
  • Deadline: October 30, 2009
  • Eligibility:
    • U.S. citizens and permanent residents who will have a bachelor’s degree in physics, chemistry, applied math, engineering or computer science at the start of the fellowship
    • willing to make skills available to the U.S. in time of national emergency. Apply as a senior.

J. William Fulbright Fellowship

  • Award: Living costs, book and research allowances, and round-trip transportation to host country.
  • Deadline: October 19, 2009
  • Eligibility:
    •  U.S. citizen with B.A. degree or equivalent
    •  in good health
    •  has sufficient proficiency in the written and spoken language of the host country.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship

  • Award: Maximum of $50,000 per year of graduate study
  • Deadline: March 2010
  • Eligibility: Senior with GPA of 3.5 or higher and plans to attend full-time graduate or professional degree program at an accredited university.

Jacob K. Javits Fellowship

  • Award: Average new award of $42,106 for tuition and stipend
  • Deadline: October 2009
  • Eligibility:
    •  Undergraduate students of superior academic ability who have not yet completed their first year of graduate study and who intend to pursue a doctoral or master’s degree in selected fields of arts, humanities, and social sciences.
    •  Selected on the basis of demonstrated achievement, financial need, and exceptional promise.

James Madison Memorial Fellowship

  • Award: Up to $24,000
  • Deadline: March 1st of each year
  • Eligibility:
    • U.S. citizens who demonstrate a commitment to civic responsibilities and to professional and collegial activities
    • Qualify for admission with graduate standing at an accredited U.S. university that offers a qualifying master’s degree program.
    •  Applicants must be committed to teaching American history, American government, and/or social studies full time in grades 7-12.

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships

  • Award: The NSF provides three years of support for graduate study, up to $121, 500, leading to research-based masters or doctoral degrees in science, technology, mathematics, and engineering. See website for further details.

Phi Kappa Phi Fellowships

  • Award: $5,000 annually for graduate study
  • Deadline: February 2010
  • Eligibility: Senior who is a Phi Kappa Phi member or has accepted an invitation to join.

Rhodes Scholarship

  • Award: Covers educational and living expenses for two or three years of post-bachelor study at Oxford University in Great Britain
  • Deadline: October 5, 2009
  • Eligibility:
    •  U.S. citizen between the ages of 18-23 (on October 1, 2007) and earns bachelor’s degree before October 2008.
    •  Applicants should demonstrate outstanding intellectual and academic achievement (minimum 3.6 GPA), integrity of character, interest in others, leadership ability, and the energy to fully use their talents.

Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship

  • Award: Up to $23,000 for one year of academic study in another country
  • Deadline: July 2010
  • Eligibility:
    • Completed at least two years of college-level coursework
    • Proficient in the language of the proposed host country.
    • Restrictions apply to relatives of Rotarians.

Udall Scholarship

  • Award: Up to $5,000
  • Deadline: March 2, 2010
  • Eligibility:
    •  Sophomore or junior committed to a career related to the environment or in Native American health care or tribal public policy.
    •  Must have a GPA of “B” and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship(Thomas Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship)

  • Award: Tuition, room, board and mandatory fees during the junior and senior years of college and first year of graduate study.
  • Deadline: February 2010
  • Eligibility:
    •  U.S. citizen and a sophomore with a GPA of 3.2 or higher with outstanding leadership skills, academic achievement, and demonstrate financial need.
    •  Must commit to pursuing a master’s degree in international studies at one of the graduate schools participating in the program.
