Jain practitioner Hira Ratan Manek talks about the practice of Sun Gazing-a practice which, he states, ultimately leads to peace of mind, body and spirit, and can even eliminate the need for food. The lecture is followed by a demonstration of the practice of sun-gazing.

“The Cup”

The Cup is a comedy about the young boys who live in a Buddhist monastery and how they are conspiring to be able to watch the World Cup finals on television. It could be the plot to any G-rated family-friendly movie, except for the religious setting and the political context of a culture in exile.
Expression and Rejection: A Buddhist Perspective on Negative Emotions

Tibetan Buddhist nun, Ani Kung will discuss a bit of Buddhist philosophy based on the four noble truths, especially the first and third (suffering and the path beyond suffering). Then it will cover the psychology of how to deal with negative emotions without either expressing or repressing them, i.e. by eliminating them altogether. Here, practical visualization and/or meditation techniques for dealing with anger from the Tibetan Buddhist mind-training techniques might be discussed.
“Sadaa E Zan": Voices of Women in Afghanistan

Award-winng Sadda E Zan: Voices of Women, is an intimate look at he contemporary challenges facing the women in Afghanistan. Composed of testimonials from women and girls, the film offers no easy answers, but it captures the resilient spirit of these women as the bravely emerge from the rubble of tyranny and oppression, determined to reach freedom.

Sessions will be led by students of Gareth Young, an instructor from the Atlanta Soto Zen Center (ASZC) and disciple of Michael Elliston, Abbot and founder of ASZC. Gareth Young has been a disciple of Taiun Michael Elliston for three years and currently instructs the group at sessions held at a private residence in Kingston.
