March 22, 2005
Jeff opened the meeting by drawing attention to the many holidays that are part of the change of seasons. He suggested perhaps that more events be focused around the hoidays next year.
Minutes were unanimously approved.
Upcoming Events
Joseph Chilton Pearce will be speaking Saturday from 10:00-12:30 in the Science Auditorium.
Next Tuesday Jeff will be giving a presentation of the Parliament of World Religions at 5:00 in the Interfaith Center.
Meet the Jews will be on April 5, as will the announcement of the Art Contest winner
April 13 “Stolen Summer” will be shown at 7:00. It is our last event of the year.
Programming
Jeff asked everyone to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of the events this past year.
Tom noted that we should have a follow up to the “Meet the. . .” panels next semester, along with more programs addressing aspects of various religions. He also suggested more participatory presentations, such as various services or maybe even sponsorship of trips to Mosques or Temples.
Ellen suggested more events tied to holidays during the year.
Kathleen noted the importance of interactive speakers.
Film Series?
Jeff noted that Harvey has been talking of a philosophy and religion film series. IFC could help to sponsor it.
Ellen suggested films focused more on social justice versus religion.
It was noted that too may films would be a bad thing. Students are discouraged by such long programs. Also, perhaps some of the events should be held at the 11:00 break on Tuesday and Thursday.
Amount of Events?
Kathleen stated that there were too many events this year and was frustrated that she was not able to attend them all.
Tom said that if turnout is good, there is no reason to lessen the amount of events.
Art Contest
Brent reviewed all the contacts and work he has done. So far only one person has submitted.
The deadline was extended to April 1.
Next Meeting
Appointment of new members will be discussed, along with events for next year. The next, and last meeting of the year, will be held on April 19th, 4:00.
