IFC Minutes for November 16, 2005
I. Jeff opened with a remark on the latest Campus Carrier. We should not be afraid of our own reflection; we should accept each other for our differences and similarities.
II. Review of last month’s minutes.

Steve asked for clarification on the negative feelings towards the IFC.

David M. reviewed last month’s meeting adding it was key to make minorities feel included.

Minutes were then unanimously approved.
III. Interfaith Council Charge

David F. discussed last month’s meeting, stating that our mission makes us out to be only a programming committee and nothing more. Feels we should be doing more than just what the mission states. David was concerened that a lot of people still do not know about the IFC.

He asked the question, How do Christians interact with others and how does the IFC facilitate this interaction?
IV. Clarification of the relationship between the Chaplain’s Office and the IFC

Dale stated that the IFC has been fulfilling its bylaws of epressing and educating through multiple religions. The Chaplain’s Office wants to make sure the school has Christian values, but the IFC makes sure that Berry is welcoming to those who come from a different background.

He stated that the two organizations work together through separate spheres that should not be considered antagonistic. Dale agreed that many students have forgotten what the IFC is, as it has been 2 years since its creation.

In the SOAR sessions over the summer, students are given a review of the Religion-in-Life organizations, including the IFC.

Ellen suggested that more detail be given to the IFC and what it does during this presentation.

David F. stated that we should all be clear on the mission in order to be more productive.
V. Diversity on Campus

Scott argued that we should say to the community what our stance on diversity is. Berry should strive to be as diverse as Georgia.

Tom added that the IFC grew out of the need for greater understanding and compassion

David F. stated we should promote solutions instead of focus on eliminating problems.
VI. Programming

Ellen reminded everyone of the Thanksgiving Service to be held next Tuesday at 11:00. Prayers and songs from different religions will be used, including the “7 Directions” prayer. Everyone will be given a chance to say what he/she is thankful for. There will also be a canned foods drive

David F. stated the “Meet the. . .” series will continue into the Spring, though dates are not set.

Steve suggested a PR committee be formed to spread the word on IFC events. The idea was tabled to the next meeting.

Jeff suggested a panel called “Meet the Christians” along with a “Meet the IFC” panel.

In terms of the recent tragedies in Dana, Carol suggested sending an email of congratulations to the BSA.
The next meeting will be held in January.
