Community Service Council

The mission of the Community Service Council (CSC) is to unite civically engaged Berry College organizations to support, strengthen, and enrich further effective community service by acting as an advisory council to the Bonner Center for Community Engagement.

The Community Service Council serves in the following areas:

1. Communication. Creates a network that links CSC organizations together to share and exchange information concerning community service events and resources;

2. Education. Fosters an atmosphere of social awareness and civic responsibility;

3. Action. Facilitates efforts to engage the campus in community service.

Members of the Community Service Council:

Amnesty International
This organization is an international non-governmental organization that strives to educate its members and the wider community through the promotion of awareness of human rights issues.

Athletes Bettering the Community (ABC)
The purpose of ABC is to encourage athletes, other students, faculty and staff to promote the Berry motto “Not to be ministered unto, but to minister” by participation in community service activities.

BCVS – Berry College Volunteer Services
BCVS serves to connect students with local agencies to encourage community involvement. The program also hosts several campus-wide service projects and educational events throughout the year.

Bonner Scholars Program
The Bonner Scholars Program allows students to engage in community work as a means to address social need while making their education affordable. The program pursues its goal to "change the world through service" by providing access to education and opportunities to serve.

Circle K (Kiwanis)
Sponsored through the Kiwanis Club, Circle K’s purposes are to emphasize the advantages of the democratic way of life; provide opportunities for leadership training in service; serve the campus and community through participation in activities; promote good fellowship and high scholarship; and to develop citizenship and the spirit of service for improvement of all human relationships.

CAC – Colleges Against Cancer
CAC chapter organization is a nationwide collaboration of college students, faculty, and staff dedicated to eliminating cancer by initiating and supporting programs of the American Cancer Society in college communities.

Habitat for Humanity
The purpose of this chapter is to provide opportunities for its members to participate in all aspects of the work and ministry of Habitat for Humanity.

HHOPE – Hunger and Homelessness Outreach Programs and Education
HHOPE is committed to fight hunger and homelessness through a three-part course of action – Service, Education, and Activism – because they believe all people, locally and internationally, should have their basic needs met. 

Lambda Sigma
The purpose of Lambda Sigma is to foster leadership, scholarship, fellowship, spirit, and service among college students.  Members will be selected to serve during their sophomore year. 

ODK – Omicron Delta Kappa
This national leadership honorary chapter recognizes junior and senior students who have attained a high academic record and have held leadership positions on campus.   The purposes of this group are to recognize individuals for outstanding performance in collegiate activities and to bring together students, faculty and staff on a basis of mutual interest and understanding.

Rotaract Club (Rotary)
Affiliated with Rotary International, Rotaract provides an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.

SAVE – Students Against Violating the Earth
This organization’s purpose is to unite the Berry community with environmental concern and action.  Several recycling projects are ongoing throughout the campus.

SGA - Student Government Association
SGA serves as an intermediary for the consideration of college problems which are of vital interest to both the students and the faculty and staff ,while developing principles of democratic self-government and encouraging and promoting cooperation among faculty, staff, administration, and students.  Students receive membership upon enrollment; voting privileges accompany elected representative positions.

Tangible Impact
The primary purpose of this campus chapter of Tangible Impact Incorporated is to participate in the growth and development of South Rome in Rome, GA and also outreach beyond the local community.  This will be done through planning and volunteering for events, mentoring, and global trips.
