Community Partnerships


The Bonner Center for Community Engagement defines two types of partnerships based on the duration, responsibilities, and learning opportunities of the volunteer activities.  Each type of partnership requires an increasing level of responsibility from community partners in the role of co-educators.  Following is a brief outline of the types of partnerships and expectations:

  1. One-Time Volunteer Opportunity (i.e., special event, weekend service project)
  • Brief orientation of organization
  • Description of activities & expectations
  • Supplies & equipment provided
  • Access to water & restrooms
    1. Ongoing Volunteer Placements (including Bonner Scholars Program)
  • Volunteer position descriptions
  • Liability insurance that covers students volunteers
  • Application & interview process
  • Orientation to agency
  • Relevant training as outlined in a training module
  • Integration of volunteers into agency operations & staff
  • Supervision & timely feedback
  • Evaluation
