Committees of the Student Government Association
Budget & Finance Committee
The Budget & Finance Committee of the Student Government Association is chaired by the Treasurer and is charged with assisting the Treasurer with his/her duties. The Committee mainly reviews all requests for financial assistance, investigates Campus Improvement Allocation proposals, and helps the Treasurer draft a budget each semester. The Committee is also empowered to revise and enforce the rules governing the use of the SGA's finances. Election Committees
The Vice President of Student Services assumes the position of chairperson, as long as he or she is not running as candidate for a position. Other members include SGA Officers and other SGA Representatives, as long as they are not running in the current election for any position.
The duties of the Election Committee is to report any observed or rumored campaign or election irregularity or violation of the campaign or election rules, run polls, count votes, and be responsible for enforcing the campaign guidelines approved by the Body of Representatives.
Election Oversight Committee
This committee consists of the Election Committee Chairperson and two members of the Election Committee (none of the SGA Executive Officers). A meeting of the committee must be made in the case that a grievance arises toward a candidate regarding inappropriate behavior during an election. In the meeting, the committee will hear both sidees and decide what action to take in the situation.
Judicial Oversight Committee
Membership is restricted to the Parliamentarian and two SGA members to be selected by the Body of Representatives at the second business meeting of each new administration. The Parliamentarian shall serve as the chairperson of this committee. Committee members must be able to be present at most SGA business meetings and shall be replaced by a vote of the Body of Representatives after missing three meetings in a semester. Mountain Day Committee
The Mountain Day Committee is chaired by the Vice President of Campus Services and is comprised of members from the body. It is the duty of the Chair to coordinate the selection of the following year's Mountain Day Project at least two weeks prior to the last meeting of the academic year, as per Article III, Section 4h of the Constitution.
The duties of the MDC include planning and carrying out the annual Mountain Day Project. The Mtn. Day Project is carried out each year by the students in order to commemorate Martha Berry's birthday and is designed to improve Berry. Recent projects have included a fund-raising drive to air condition the College Chapel, the outdoor classroom, and trail markers for the Mountain Campus. A Mountain Day Service Project may also planned and carried out by the MDC.
Special Projects Committee
The Special Projects Committee of the Student Government Association consists of a chairperson appointed by the President and membership is open to the body as per Article VI, Section 8 of the Constitution. The Vice President of Campus Services serves as a member ex officio of the Special Projects Committee.
The duties of the SPC are to coordinate all projects and events not assigned to an executive officer or other committee by the Constitution. Functions of the SPC are intended to serve the entire Berry College community and the Greater Rome area. Annual projects of the SPC include on-campus Trick-or-Treating at Halloween, adopting Christmas Angels (needy children), and carrying out of the Christmas project.
Student Affairs Committee
The Student Affairs Committee of the Student Government Association consists of one chairperson and members from the student body, per Article VI Section 7 of the SGA Constitution "At the first meeting of the new year, the President will appoint a chairperson of the Student Affairs Committee. Membership will be open to the body." The SGA Vice President of Student Services is a member ex officio of the Student Affairs Committee.
The role of the SAC in SGA is to perform tasks related to specific issues and affairs upon which the student body desires action. These tasks can either be assigned to the committee by a motion of the assembled representatives at a meeting, or be taken up at the initiative of the committee. In these latter situations, the SAC is empowered to act on behalf of the Student Government Association without consulting the assembled representatives at a meeting. However, in these situations, the SAC acts in close consultation with the SGA officers.
Vice Presidents' Council
The Vice Presidents' Council of the Student Government Association consists of twelve members appointed by the Vice Presidents at the first business meeting of the year. The SGA Vice President of Student Services and the Vice President of Campus Services serve as co-chairpersons of the Vice Presidents' Council. The SGA Constitution stipulates that additions to and subtractions from the VPC can be made at the discretion of the Vice Presidents (Article VI Section 5).
The purpose of the VPC in SGA is, as stated in the SGA Constitution, to assist the Vice Presidents in their duties. For a list of the duties of the Vice Presidents, see Article III Section 4 of the SGA Constitution.
