Student Issues Page

Welcome to the SGA Student Issues Page. The purpose of this page is to keep students posted on what SGA is doing to help find resolution to the issues students raise. This page is maintained primarily by the Vice President of Student Services, however all SGA Executive Officers and the members of the Student Affairs Committee are active in settling student concerns and problems.

1/10/07: SGA is currently working to establish a 24-hour study area for students.

10/24/06: A student activities fee is in the works for Berry College. This issue was presented to SGA this week where the majority of the body voted in favor of the fee. A campus wide vote will take place soon.

8/29/06:  The changes to the SGA Constitution were approved by the Student Life Council who reccomended it to the President of Berry College. He approved the changes this summer.

3/23/06: Constitution Revision

Why the Change?:

Amending the SGA constitution was a task which has been due for several years now. The old constitution was a 30 page document which contained too much detail for a constitution. This detailed information in the constitution is proposed to be moved from the constitution to the bylaws of the SGA, with the purpose for doing so to enable the SGA body to add to and change multiple areas which pertain to the business of SGA which will be discussed further in the following paragraphs.

Whats so different about this Revision?:

All of the responsibilities for the SGA officers, appointed positions, advisors, representatives and class officers will be moved from the constitution to the bylaws. The reason for this change is to enable the body to add to and detract from the responsibilities of the officers and appointed members, so that their responsibilities will accurately reflect the current situation under which SGA is functioning.

Procedures for SGA elections were moved out of the constitution to the bylaws for two reasons. One, by placing the elections information in the bylaws the body will be able to more easily amend the elections processes and rule in order to utilize current technologies or to change the rules for the current operating environment of SGA. Two, by moving the elections to bylaws it will be placing the election information with the already existent elections oversight guidelines which are already bylaws.

SGA committees where moved to the bylaws as well. This change will enable to SGA body to add and subtract committees, as well as adding and subtracting responsibilities of those committees in order to best suit the needs of SGA.

Lastly, the process for SGA finances and resolutions was moved to the bylaws to enable to SGA body to have a greater amount of governing control over itself.
