MicroFridge
The Student Government Association offers a MicroFridge rental service to students who desire not to invest in purchasing their own microwave, refrigerator, and freezer for their dorm room. These units are designed to be compact and to meet the strict electrical guidelines outlined for electrical equipment in the student handbook, the Viking Code.
Students often find that these units are extremely convenient for storing quick snacks and drinks in the refrigerator and ice cream and frozen dinners in the freezer; the microwave is of course exceedingly important for cooking popcorn, warming pizza, and preparing quick dinners, snacks, or a cup of hot tea or cocoa. Having all of these options in one compact, coordinating unit that shares one electrical outlet plug is a particularly persuasive feature of the MicroFridge.

Rentals may be made by the semester or year and require a refundable deposit to reserve a unit. The current rental cost if $50.00 per semester, per unit with a $30.00 deposit. Roommates often share one unit and split the rental cost and deposit. The refundable deposit is returned when the unit is turned back in to SGA on-time, defrosted, dry, clean, and in working order. A list of possible credits (due to errors or unit malfunctions) and replacement charges (due to student abuse to the unit) is available here.
For more information on the specifics of renting a MicroFridge, or to reserve a unit for the 2003-2004 academic year, please contact the SGA office.
Unfortunately, SGA cannot sell MicroFridge units and the company that markets them, Interion, only sells the units for institutional (college, hotel, etc.) use.
