Berry Show

Berry hosted the second weekend of IHSA competition, and had a fantastic showing. The Vikings earned High Point Team all four shows, 2 hunter seat and 2 western. On top of that, Berry riders received 7 out of the 8 possible high point and reserve high point rider awards!
In the hunter seat shows, Sarah Smith was unstoppable in the Intermediate division, winning all four of her classes, and receiving the High Point Hunter Seat Rider award both days. Reserve High Point Rider on Saturday went to Open rider Lauren Brown, who won the fences and placed 2 nd on the flat. On Sunday, Novice rider Jocelyn Bee was Reserve High Point Rider, winning her flat class and placed 2 nd over fences. Other strong rides (besides those mentioned) were:
Open flat- Lauren Brown (2 nd on Sunday)
Intermediate flat- Rachel Volentine (1 st, 2 nd) and Lindsey Kenny (2 nd on Sat.)
Novice flat- Jocelyn Bee (3 rd on Sat.) and Kristin Farmer (2 nd on Sunday)
Novice fences- Jocelyn Bee (2 nd) and Megan Gilker (2 nd both days)
Advanced WTC- Kristin Farmer (1 st on Sat.), Allie Wetzel (1 st on Sun.), Avi Izaguirre (3 rd, 4 th)
Beginner WTC- Brielle Juhan (2 nd, 1 st)
Walk-Trot- Jennifer Hamrick (1 st both days)
At the end of the weekend, Berry’s hunter seat team leads the region by 30 points over USC. Congratulations to all riders, and to regional qualifiers Rachel Volentine in Intermediate flat, and Kristin Farmer in WTC!
In the western shows, sophomore Taylor Clark dominated as she took top honors on Saturday, placing 1 st and 3 rd in Open rail and reining. On Sunday, she received Reserve High Point after pinning 2 nd in rail and 3 rd in reining. Also on Saturday, freshman Open rider Casey Bennington was Reserve High Point Rider, as she took 1 st in reining and 4 th in rail. Other strong rides were:
Open- Lauren Brown- 4 th, 2 nd in reining, 3 rd, 4 th in rail
Advanced- Haley Chappelle (1 st, 3 rd), Brittany Hannah (2 nd, 1 st), Megan Gilker (4 th, 2 nd)
Novice- Jessica Gilker (1 st, 3 rd) and Avi Izaguirre (1 st on Sun.)
Intermediate- Kristin Farmer (1 st both days) and Avi Izaguirre (4 th on Sat.)
Beginner- Jennifer Hamrick (3 rd, 1 st) and Brielle Juhan (2 nd on Sun.)
At the end of the weekend, Berry’s western team leads Judson College by 14 points. Congrats to all, and to regional qualifiers Jennifer Hamrick in Beginner and Avi Izaguirre in Intermediate!
