Career Planning for Freshmen

Self-Assessment  

  • Make an individual appointment with one of the career counselors   Steps for Career Planning 
  • Use FOCUS 2 to clarify your interests, skills and values 
    • Log-in to VikingWeb. Go to the Plan4ward tab. Click on Plan4Experience menu button 
     
  • Take the Strong Interest Inventory and/or Myers Briggs Type Indicator 
  • Get involved with campus activities 

Choosing a Major  

  • Make an individual appointment with one of the career counselors 
  • Research majors options in Career Library 
  • Attend the Majors Fair in September to explore academic options at Berry  
  • Take a variety of courses, and stay open-minded about the selection of a major 
  • Utilize “What Can I Do with a Major In….?" to explore academic options 

Exploring Career Options   

  • Make an individual appointment with one of the career counselors 
  • Familiarize yourself with the Career Center homepage   
  • Explore career options and conduct informational interviews utilizing the Alumni Career Network 
  • Explore the idea of doing an internship 
  • Attend academic departmental Career Conversation programs 
  • Explore this resource guide on researching career options

Getting Experience  

  • Make an individual appointment with one of the career counselors 
  • Find a summer job that interests you 
  • Participate in on-campus work/off-campus work
