Senior Timeline 2005/2006

SEPTEMBER

____ Attend SeniorOrientation session (except Teacher Education majors)

____ Develop a post-graduation plan, consider both advanced studies and professional employment

____ Write/update your resume

____ Register on-line at www.monstertrak.com to register with the Career Development Center and to be eligible for the resume referral service. Password is: berryga

____ Place your resume on-line via MonsterTrak

____ Research graduate schools using resources in the Career Library

____ Register for graduate admissions tests, such as the GRE, GMAT, and LSAT (Registration info in the Career Development Center)

 

OCTOBER

____ Meet with a career counselor to discuss post-graduation plans and to generate options

____ Write to graduate schools to request application materials, and financial aid information

____ Request letters of recommendation from faculty, advisors, former employers, if you are planning to go to graduate school

____ Develop a list of references if you plan to enter the job market

____ Join student chapters of professional associations

____ Research job listings and graduate school information. Utilize Career Development Center resources

 

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER

____ Research/apply for financial aid/scholarships for graduate school

____ Identify alumni through the Alumni Career Network in the Career Development Center and strengthen employment opportunities

____ Complete graduate school applications (Allow yourself plenty of time to proof and finalize all forms)

____ Update resume to include internships, campus leadership positions, and/or other related experiences

____ Update your resume on MonsterTRAK

 

JANUARY

____ Continue involvement in the On-Campus Interview Program; research all leads

____ Follow-up on contacts made using the Alumni Career Network

____ If you are still unaware of your interests, get career counseling

____ Be proactive: Identify companies/agencies and school systems of interest; send out targeted cover letters and resumes

____ Meet with a career counselor to discuss progress and refine post-graduation plans

____ Develop a portfolio, if used in your field (education, art, journalism, etc.)

 

FEBRUARY

____ Begin checking web resources/career library job notebooks on a weekly basis

____ If you have not already done so, sign up for a Mock Interview appointment in the Career Development Center to practice your interviewing skills

____ Continue to contact employers directly by sending targeted resumes and cover letters

 

MARCH

____ Continue comprehensive job search plan; meet with a career counselor to discuss progress

____ If you are planning to relocate, use Spring Break as an opportunity to visit, generate job search leads and possible interviews

 

APRIL/MAY

____ Begin to evaluate job offers and acceptances to graduate programs

____ Continue all job search efforts. Update your resume on MonsterTrak

____ If you have not secured full-time employment, consider temporary employment agencies or volunteer work

____ Notify the Career Development Center of your post-graduation plans

____ Continue to work with the Career Development Center staff as needed; be sure to notify Center Development Center of job or graduate school plans, new address and phone number prior to leaving campus
