Frequently asked questions by Berry students regarding the Health and Wellness Center
Who has access to my medical records?
- Everything in the Health and Wellness Center in confidential. This means your health care will not be discussed with anyone without your written consent. There are several safeguards in place to protect your medical records. The student workers are restricted from confidential and personal information and are trained in depth on matters of confidentiality.
- Yes. You must have the following to receive the injections:
- A doctor's order stating that you have permission to receive your injection at Berry.
- Serum for the injections (must remain in our refrigerator while you are at Berry.)
- The injections must be given during our doctor's clinic hours, which are Mondays from 12-5 p.m. and Thursdays from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
- You will need to stay for at least 20 minutes to be observed for any adverse reactions. There are no exceptions.
- Before registering for classes, the Health and Wellness Center must have record of two Measles, Mumps, and Rubella vaccinations, as well as a Health History and Self-Report. If you reside on campus, Georgia law also requires that you receive a meningitis vaccination or waive this immunization. A copy of the needed forms can be obtained online.
- There are no provisions for overnight stay at the Health and Wellness Center. The nurse will assess your physical condition during business hours and decide what type of care you will need and arrange that care accordingly. If you need medical attention after business hours, Urgent Care, Harbin Clinic's Immediate Care Center, Redmond Regional Medical Center, and Floyd Medical Center are easily accessible. There is a nurse on call for consultation only 24 hours a day.
- No, there is no charge for over-the-counter medicines, loan equipment, resource materials, nurse visits, allergy injections, or doctor visits. However, there is a one time yearly fee for GYN services provided on campus. Any service off campus, such as lab and x-rays will be billed by the facility to your private insurance.

What medical supplies should I send with my son/daughter to Berry?
- The Health and Wellness Center has a variety of over-the-counter medicines and first aid supplies that the student can obtain during operating hours. It is recommended that a simple first aid kit be assembled and sent to Berry with the student.

- Band-Aids
- Iodine swabs
- Neosporin ointment
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Tylenol, Advil, Pepto
- Non-drowsy decongestant
- Non-drowsy cough medicine
- Calamine lotion
- Hydrocortisone cream
- Thermometer
- Ace wrap
- Also, any prescription medicines that the student needs, and any medical equipment that the student uses (inhalers, braces, etc.)

What information should my son/daughter have on hand?
- It is very important that your son/daughter has the following:
- Proof of medical insurance - a copy of your health insurance card will do.
- Name of area pharmacies which accept your insurance policy
- Area hospitals which accept your insurance plan
- List of medicines, side effects, and medicine allergies
