Parents' Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some questions that are not answered on our Frequently Asked Questions page that we have found are often asked by parents.
-
Should I buy extra long or regular twin sheets?
Our mattresses are a mix of regular twin and extra long twin mattresses. In the past few years we have been buying only extra long twin mattresses. Our advice is to buy extra long twin sheets and simply tuck in the remainder if the mattress is a standard twin. -
What furniture is provided in the room?
Each resident will have a bed, (twin or extra long twin), chest of drawers, closet/wardrobe, desk, and chair. Each room is also equipped with one telephone jack with voicemail capabilities. See Residence Hall Bedroom Furniture for details. -
When will my son or daughter receive their room and roommate assignments?
New students will be notified of their room assignment and given the name(s) of their roommate(s) when they attend a summer SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration) Session during June. Later, SOAR attendees will have their room assignments and roommate information mailed to them in July. -
What type of security exists in the residence halls?
Security begins at the gatehouse, where visitors are screened after sunset. All our residence halls are locked in the evening and residents are issued a key to the outside doors. The New Residence Hall's outside doors are on a card access system that works with the student's ID card. Fire safety is discussed on the residence hall information page. -
What are the dimensions of the room?
Room dimensions can be found on the individual residence hall pages—start on the residence hall information page. - What if my son or daughter isn't getting along with their roommate?
Please refer to the information on our Room Change page—particularly the box entitled Getting Help with Roommates.
