Lamar Westcott Building

This stone building, erected in 1955, is behind the Ford complex near the gymnasium. The stone, which matches that in the Ford Buildings, came from the quarry off Redmond Road at the edge of Rome.

This building first housed the food-processing plant and school laundry. Fire destroyed a portion of the building in 1974; it was remodeled and, for a time, housed the meat-processing plant and offices for agriculture until 1980. The processing plant was closed. Horticulture and animal-science offices and classrooms remain in the building. The greenhouse and gardens for the horticulture program are adjacent to the building.

In April 1977, funds were allocated from the Eli Lilly bequest to remodel the laundry wing for use as the Berry Early Learning Center. The building was formally named for long-time trustee Lamar Westcott, of Dalton, Georgia, during the 1978-79 school year. The early learning center (laboratory school) was relocated to the mountain campus in 1987. After the lab school moved, The building was renovated, and the agriculture program reoccupied the building. Subsequently, greenhouses and landscaping were completed for the horticulture majors.
