Winshape

The gym, shop, and fine arts complex at what is called the Winshape Centre, was originally a group of barns. The structure was built in 1930-31 mainly with Berry student labor and with money from the Berry general fund. The complex housed the academy's maintenance shop, the fine arts department, the industrial arts department, space for typing classes, the gymnasium, locker rooms, and the Berry Academy Middle School from before 1977 until the academy was closed in June 1983. Extra seating capacity was added to the gymnasium during 1981 and early 1982, and remodeling of the locker rooms was completed during the summer of 1982. In 1984, a year after the academy was closed, the complex became the headquarters of WinShape Centre.

WinShape Centre is an extension of the WinShape Foundation, which was established by Atlanta restaurateur, Truett Cathy. Outstanding young people who work for his Chick-fil-A chain of restaurants receive scholarships funded half by him and half by Berry College, as well as special opportunities for personal growth and development. A summer camp for youth and homes for children of high potential needing a wholesome and stable environment also are part of the WinShape program on Berry's mountain campus.

Inez Henry Hall was remodeled in 1984 for use as a student center and for WinShape administrative offices. The industrial arts shops, gymnasium, locker rooms, and an outdoor swimming pool completed in the summer of 1986 are used by WinShape and the college. The shops are used for student hobby work during the winter terms, for classes by summer campers at Camp WinShape, and by Berry College for furniture-making.

Adjacent to the gym are tennis courts, the soccer field, and the track (east of the soccer field). Both tennis courts and soccer field were constructed in 1965. Before that time, the track encircled the present soccer and baseball fields.
