Culture of Mentorship

Culture of Mentorship

MEET THEM ON DAY ONE. KEEP THEM FOREVER.

For more than 100 years, Berry students have sharpened their intellects, prepared for their careers and deepened their character in a culture of mentorship. Supported by faculty, staff supervisors, fellow students, coaches and alumni, they are given the daily personal attention and support that allow them to seek challenges, discover opportunities, overcome adversity and imagine exciting futures.

100% of first-year Berry students are assigned peer and faculty mentors. Most graduate with three or more mentors.

IT’S A MATTER OF LEGACY.

Our founder Martha Berry believed in the power of people helping people. She served as teacher and mentor. Her students helped build and operate their school. The resulting education was based on joint effort and shared ownership (which is the single best environment for learning that lasts).

IT’S A MATTER OF MOMENTUM.

The people of Berry gladly take on the important work of guiding, supporting and inspiring one another — even though it takes time and effort. Because it’s the best way to teach. Because it’s in the water here. Because it’s the right thing to do.

IT’S A MATTER OF SCALE.

The kind of mentorship you’ll enjoy at Berry is only possible because the numbers here work in your favor. (Berry has 2,153 students and employs 607 faculty, staff and coaches.) You will be known and seen and valued. Your accomplishments will be applauded. Your challenges will be met with helping hands.

IT’S A MATTER OF STEPPING UP.

As months and years pass in this culture of mentorship, you’ll take on the attributes of the people you most admire. You’ll become the best possible version of yourself. (Nothing cements knowledge and experience like the opportunity to put it to use by mentoring others.)

IT’S A MATTER OF VALUE.

Ultimately, you’re here to prepare for your future — from career to community life. The support provided by mentorship enables healthy risk taking that leads to intellectual development, the pursuit of opportunities and personal growth. Which means you’ll leave here smart, experienced, adaptable and confident. All of which helps — a lot — when it comes to life.
