Work a job. Build a life.

Many colleges will help you land an internship. Or maybe two, if you're lucky. But competition can be stiff. Often you have to wait until your third year. At which point, you're already fairly far along the path of deciding what you want to study or do with your life.

Through Berry's LifeWorks program, you'll have guaranteed access to eight semesters of paid, professional development experience, right on campus, starting on day one—exploring careers, building relationships and taking a hands-on role in your own education.

Explore and discover

You'll begin to contribute your first semester. Dig deeper if you’ve found your passion. Otherwise, keep looking until you find the thing you love. LifeWorks creates opportunities for early career exploration that are simply not possible at other colleges.

Universal preparation

Whatever your major, whatever your chosen profession, whatever your LifeWorks position(s), you’ll gain portable skills and habits of mind that will distinguish you—in grad school applications, job interviews and everywhere else.

How you’ll be known

The LifeWorks program yields graduates known for doggedness, dependability, humility, work ethic, time management, problem solving, teamwork, discipline, self-confidence, analytical chops, responsibility, diplomacy, discernment, accountability, judgment, people management and leadership. Your résumé will thank you. So will your future employer.

Relevant experience

Berry’s campus (the world’s largest) is home to unique facilities and resources that provide stellar preparation for specific careers—from animal science to scientific research to education to environmental sciences to entrepreneurship.

Pride of ownership

The idea behind LifeWorks dates back to our founding, when Martha Berry offered her students an excellent education in exchange for their help in building and maintaining their school. Today, 98 percent of Berry students work at some point during their Berry career, an average of 10 hours a week, earning an average of $9,000 by the time they graduate.

True grit

Everyone starts at a Level 1 position, which means you learn the College from the ground up, including the daily activities that provide the foundational services of our community. From there you’ll move up to greater responsibility, managing budgets and projects, overseeing operations, leading people. But every Level 2-5 job you take on will rest on the foundation of hard work and doggedness that distinguishes Berry alumni throughout their lives.
