Theatre Recruitment Form

Scholarship Auditions

Admission to the theatre program is delegated through an audition process. Scholarships are available for students who intend to major or minor in Theatre or minor in Musical Theatre at Berry. Theatre scholarships are awarded based on experience and demonstrated talent in acting, stage management, playwriting, research and design/technical activity. We encourage all students who are interested in participating in theatre at Berry to audition, regardless of your anticipated level of participation.

Scholarship auditions are held in February for students interested in enrolling in the upcoming fall semester. Because theatre is best experienced live and in person, we prefer that students participate in our on-campus audition date, which includes lunch as well as opportunities to tour the theatre and engage with theatre faculty and current students. We also offer auditions at the Georgia Theatre Conference. If you are unable to attend a live audition on these dates, please contact us to inquire about other opportunities.

You can request an audition through the MyBerry student portal after you have submitted your application for admission.

Actors/Performance

Actors need to prepare two memorized, contemporary or classic monologues from a published play, up to 90 seconds each in length. Additionally (but not required), those who wish to sing may bring a 16-bar cut of a song from a published musical. Singers can request live accompaniment per their audition request form, but they must bring their own sheet music. Requests for an accompanist must be at least 7 days in advance to be granted. Recorded tracks of accompanying music are also allowed, but it is requested that they be piano only.

Design/Tech

Designers/technicians should be prepared to share a portfolio with design renderings, technical drawings (ground plans/light plots/costume renderings, etc.) as well as production photos. Stage managers should be prepared to share prompt scripts.

Writers/Researchers

Playwrights/researchers should bring two printed copies of three writing samples which could include original short plays, a scene cut from a longer play, a research paper, an essay, or dramaturgical work/samples. As this is an in-person meeting, and not just an online submission, please be prepared to for a positive conversation between artists on the context and motivation behind what you wrote.

For All Auditionees

All students are advised to bring a head shot, current resume, and two letters of recommendation from teachers, directors, etc. who can speak to your qualifications and dedication to theatre. Scholarships are renewable for up to four years.

Current Berry students may also apply for a scholarship, but must schedule an audition or interview with the department.

If you have any questions about the audition process, please contact the Berry College Theatre Office at bctc@berry.edu.
