The Carper Mentoring Program

The Carper Mentoring Program matches small groups of Juniors and Seniors with experienced leaders in the professional community. Groups meet approximately twice-per-month during the school year to discuss real-life leadership and integrity across a multitude of contexts.

Academics Offerings

  • Foundations in Leadership (3 credits) – Students will study the historical, philosophical, and psychological underpinnings of leadership. This course explores a number of approaches to leadership, and students will have the opportunity to craft their own conception of what it means to lead in a variety of contexts.
  • Leading Teams and Groups (3 credits) – This course explores group and team dynamics through thematic modules that include group formation, engagement, collaboration, conflict, and decision-making. Students will gain a practical and theoretical understanding of how formal and informal groups shape organizations and society.
  • The Collegiate Leadership Competition (1 credit) – The CLC is a national competition in which students learn and apply a number of leadership principles in a series of fun challenges. The course culminates in a regional competition pitting a team of 6 students against teams from colleges and universities from across the country.

IMPACT Student Club

  • The goal of IMPACT is to be a resource and opportunity inclusive of all students who share a passion for leadership, through small group discussion and activity, our purpose is to build and support student leaders who in the future will have a deeper understanding of the nature of leadership and use their knowledge to do great things in their fields and communities.

  • Offers hands-on leadership opportunities that bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application and assessment, in topics such as but not limited to servant-leadership, finding purpose and defining vision, ethical decision-making.
