National Scholarships and Fellowships

Left Nav

The Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships assists exceptional current students and recent graduates with the process of applying for nationally competitive awards that will enable them to further their studies in the United States and around the world.

Such awards are typically funded by federal agencies, nonprofit organizations and other external groups. They provide recipients with financial support and, in some cases, programmatic benefits for study, research or teaching during or after their undergraduate careers.

Scholarship candidates are expected to demonstrate qualities such as academic excellence and commitment to service. Competition can be intense, to the extent that some programs require applicants to be officially endorsed or nominated by their respective institutions.

Working closely with faculty and staff, the scholarships office seeks to identify potential candidates as early as possible and to encourage them to maintain high grade point averages, conduct research projects, participate in study abroad programs and so on.

Once students are ready to begin the application process, the office helps them identify appropriate opportunities, gather required materials, draft and revise essays and personal statements, obtain letters of recommendation, and prepare for interviews.
