Machida City, Japan

Machida City, a Tokyo suburb, is a lively, upbeat town which is neither too big or to small. It is a young city, and its economy is geared towards the youth. Machida has a variety of shopping options and eateries, and it has convenient train access to Tokyo as well as nearby beaches and mountains. 

Program of Study 
All classes are taught in English, but students must take a Japanese language course. Students may choose to take up to 13 credit hours. Students in the program take Japanese studies classes such as Premodern Japanese History, Japanese Culture, Japanese Politics, the Japanese Economy, Education and Society in Japan, Japanese Art, Japanese Literature, History of Japan-U.S. Exchanges, intercultural Communication, and many more; independent studies related to international relations or internationalization are an option as well. 

Living Arrangements 
Students may choose to live in a Japanese home with a Japanese family or live in a single room in a residence hall.

Open to students with a 2.5 minimum GPA. No previous Japanese language ability required.
