Studio Art Centers International (SACI)
Located in the heart of Tuscany, Florence is the ideal destination for those interested in studying art. The city is also known for its exceptional cuisine, characteristic restaurants, ice-cream parlors, wine bars, elegant shops, artistic workshops and traditional markets. In addition, Florence is an excellent location for access to other sites and cities in Tuscany, Italy and Europe.
SACI’s home, the ‘Palazzo dei Cartelloni’ is a 29,000 square foot air-conditioned palazzo, located at Via Sant'Antonino 11, boasts a beautiful gallery/exhibition space, classrooms, a library, offices, an art conservation laboratory, media facilities and studios surrounding a large, traditional Italian garden. This location places SACI students in the vicinity of the Duomo, the church of San Lorenzo and the Ponte Vecchio, as well as just steps away from the central market and the Santa Maria Novella train station.
Program of Study
SACI provides a focused studio art studies program of depth and seriousness of challenge. The studio disciplines are to be complemented by courses in the humanities. Attendance is mandatory for all classes. All classes are taught in English, with the exception of Italian language classes, which Berry students are required to take. Lectures and classes are supplemented with many field trips.
Students are offered independent housing in residential apartments throughout the city with double or single occupancy bedrooms. SACI apartments are fully furnished and allow students to live independently. All apartments have bathrooms and kitchens, stoves, refrigerators, heat and hot water. The SACI accommodation fee includes reasonable utilities usage and an administrative fee.
Students pay Berry College semester tuition. There is a refundable program deposit of $500. See the estimated budget for other costs or visit SACI's dates and fees page. Students purchase their own food and insurance. Berry students are eligible for the SACI consortium scholarship and are encouraged to apply for other SACI scholarships. Students should be prepared to pay an insurance fee of approximately $176 and a permit of stay fee of $140. There is currently no fee for the visa. Prices are subject to change, and other fees may apply.
Undergraduates in good standing with a minimum GPA of 2.75 are invited to apply to SACI. Students studying in Italy must also apply for a visa through the IP office. Click here for more about visa and permit of stay information.
