First-Year Admissions

What courses should I take in high school to prepare for Berry?
We recommend the following high school courses as the best preparation for students pursuing enrollment at Berry:

  • 4 years of English (grammar, composition, literature, etc)
  • 4 years of Natural Sciences (such as biology, chemistry, physical science, physics, environmental science, anatomy, etc)
  • 4 years of Mathematics (to include Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry or Trigonometry, and a fourth level of math that exceeds Algebra II, such as Algebra III, Advanced Algebra/Trig, PreCalculus, Calculus or Statistics)
  • 3 years of Social Studies (such as history courses, economics, government, civics, geography, psychology and sociology)
  • 2 years of Foreign Languages (we recommend two years of the same language, and we will accept languages such as Spanish, French, German, Latin, American Sign Language, etc)

Which Standardized Test do you prefer:  The SAT or the ACT?
Either the SAT or the ACT are acceptable exams for admission to Berry College. For admission purposes, we consider the critical reading and math sections of the SAT and the composite score of the ACT. Any student submitting ACT scores should take the optional writing portion.
Berry SAT Code: 5059
Berry ACT Code: 0798

Who should I ask for a recommendation?
High-school seniors need a recommendation filed by a High School Counselor, and transfer students need a recommendation filed by their current Dean of Students (or other college official as appropriate).

Are there any special requirements for home-schooled students?
The same criteria for high school applicants apply to home school applicants. In addition, home school students are required to submit two personal recommendation forms in lieu of the counselor recommendation form required of other freshman applicants with a high school guidance counselor.

Are there any fees once I have been accepted into the program?
Once you have been accepted to Berry College we encourage you to pay the enrollment deposit of $250.00 in order to reserve a space in new student registration (SOAR) and in the residence halls. Room assignments and registration dates are assigned according to the submission date of the deposit.
