Exceptional Value

A Second Chance

A Second Chance

Small class sizes and the soccer team drew Leo Gutierrez to Berry. Poor study habits led to the loss of his HOPE scholarship. Fortunately, The Goizueta Foundation Scholars Fund, was still available to him again through financial aid. He has since raised his grade point average and regained his HOPE Scholarship. This spring, Gutierrez is studying abroad in Italy.

Getting to the Right Place

Getting to the Right PlaceNaysia and her mom were on their way to visit another college when they accidentally found Berry. As luck would have it, a Discover Berry event for prospective students was scheduled for the following day. Humphrey and her mother stayed to attend the program and had a serendipitous encounter with the WinShape Program Senior Director Bob Skelton. Humphrey applied to WinShape and was accepted. With federal and state scholarships and grants, and on-campus work Humphrey was able to enroll at Berry.

New Opportunity for Students to Graduate Debt-Free

New Opportunity for Students to Graduate Debt-FreeA major new gift from a longtime supporter of Berry will quadruple the program by sharing in the cost of more than 80 new scholarships. This new gift establishes a $10 million Donor Opportunity Fund that will be used to inspire and match new gifts by alumni and friends. A Gate of Opportunity Scholarship represents a partnership among a donor, a student and his or her family, and Berry College, with each partner contributing approximately one-third of the full cost of the student’s education. The student’s portion comes largely through extensive participation in Berry’s Work Experience Program, which offers relevant experience in more than 300 different types of jobs across campus. There are currently 28 Gate Scholars.

Tailor-made Education

Tailor-made EducationAlthough Charley Bates did not know how to sew when she applied for a position with the Berry Theatre Company, she was hired. It was a break she would not have had if not for the opportunity afforded by the Reginald Strickland Gate of Opportunity Scholarship and Berry’s firsthand student Work Experience Program. Gate Scholarships make it possible for students with a strong work ethic but limited financial resources to attend Berry with the chance of graduating debt free. Reginald Strickland (51C), is an 80-year-old alumnus so dedicated to helping Berry students that he continues to work in large part so that he can fund scholarships. Because opportunity both to set her dream in motion. And if one day she wins an Academy Award for costume design, Reg Strickland will top her list of those deserving great thanks.
