Eligibility and Requirements

This is a need-based scholarship that considers “Estimated Family Contribution” (EFC) in order to award funds to women who otherwise might not be able to afford Berry without significant debt and who have demonstrated the promise of fully realizing the Berry experience.

This scholarship cannot be combined with other community-based scholarships at Berry College (Gate of Opportunity Scholars, Bonner Scholars, Leadership Fellows and WinShape College Program). The Whitehead Scholars are selected based on scores from their common scholarship application, on-campus scholarship events, and recommendations from other institutional representatives.

In accordance with guidelines prescribed by the founder, the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation:

At the time of admission, students must:

  • Be residents of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia
  • Have been accepted to Berry College and
  • Self-identify as Christian in the admissions process

While in school, students must:

  • Stay in good academic standing
  • Hold an on-campus job
  • Participate in the Whitehead Scholars community service projects
  • Participate in the developmental, community-based curriculum set out by the program
