Welcome New Vikings

Incoming freshmen SOAR into Berry this month with an exciting two-day orientation session made just for them.

Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) is a program that introduces freshmen and transfer students to life and work at Berry and to one another. New students have the opportunity to learn their way around, make new friends and meet their freshmen advisers before classes start this fall.

Parents have the option to attend meetings on subjects such as financial aid while their students participate in icebreaker games and ask current students questions about college. Many students said a big part of their decision to attend Berry was influenced by the on-campus student Work Experience Program, as well as the opportunities they would have to take classes relevant to their interests. New students are excited about starting classes in August.

"I'm interested in communications and entrepreneurship, and to hear that they actually have classes for that was something that definitely hit my radar. I heard about Berry from my friends and just fell in love with the place," said Victoria Pierce, an incoming freshman.

The current students and faculty who lead SOAR are just as excited as the new students.

"I loved SOAR my first year, I had a blast, I loved being welcomed as a freshman, and I love meeting new people, so this is kind of the perfect job," said Hope Beebe, a SOAR Leader and a sophomore animal science major.

The freshmen return to Berry for Viking Venture Aug. 20-24 and fall classes start Aug. 25.
