Ride to Victory

The Berry College Equestrian Team continues to charge ahead taking first place recently in both the Hunt Seat and Western Regionals at the Berry.

The equestrian team consists of both English and Western disciplines. The English discipline focuses on fences and equitation while the Western discipline focuses on reining and horsemanship. Both are women’s varsity sports at Berry College. The head coach is Margaret Knight and the assistant coach is Debra Wright.

The Hunt Seat team competed against 11 teams, winning by a four-point margin over the University of Alabama, and placing first in five out of nine events. Freshman Jamie Losey earned high point rider for the show while sophomore Micaela Ludwig qualified for next month’s regionals. Senior Autumn Clarke earned regional high point rider for the year, qualifying her for the Cacchione Cup in May.

The Western team placed first in every event at the regional (date) with a 26-point lead on their competing five teams. As a result, all four of the Western team members that qualified to participate in the regionals ended up qualifying for the semifinals at the end of this month in Ohio. As for the show itself, the high point rider was Elizabeth Poczobut and the reserve high point rider was Arden Foster.
