Zombies, gym rats and sharks recently competed in the 2016 Mountain Day Olympics in a variety of contests that pitted residence halls against each other. Morgan/Deerfield girls and Dana boys came in first!

Mountain Day, the annual homecoming weekend that celebrates founder Martha Berry’s birthday, also included the Mountain Day Talent Show and alumni Michael Maney (’98) as the featured Convocation speaker. Maney reflected on his time at Berry, including a failed math course that spurred him to become a communication major and eventually go on to work at Disney. Maney is now senior director of communications at Target.

On the mountain, the class of 2017 wore their blues and whites as they participated in their last Grand March as seniors. All students took part in one of the oldest traditions at Berry College, marching up and down the mountain, holding hands with classmates and dropping pennies into a basket.

“It was really fun, probably the highlight of my Mountain Day,” said freshman Jessica Clements of Fayetteville, Ga.

Other events included the Charter Fellows Alumni Teacher Conference, Mountain Day Golf Scramble, high school/academy alumni gathering, college class reunion brunch, House o’ Dreams tours,  Latino/Latina alumni merienda, men’s soccer game, psychology alumni cookout, KCAB, SOAR and SGA reunion reception and of course the carnival, Marthapalooza.
