Welcome New Vikings!

During the month of June, several hundred new Berry College students soared onto campus for an exciting two-day orientation session.

Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) is a program that introduces freshmen and transfer students to life, work and future classmates at Berry. New students have the opportunity to learn their way around, make new friends and meet their advisors before classes start this fall.

SOAR leaders, a group of current Berry students, help guide and answer questions about college, conduct icebreaker games and assist incoming students on defining what they want their next four years to look like.

“My first year goals are to step out my comfort zone, meet new people and do exciting things,” said incoming freshman Alyssa Beasley when asked what she wanted to accomplish once she got to Berry.

Parents, faculty, staff and current students are just as excited for this up-and-coming fall class. Sophomore SOAR leader Bailey Dingley recalls her time at SOAR as a freshman.

“When I came to SOAR as a freshman, that’s when I knew Berry was going to be my home. The people I met during orientation were welcoming and excited, which was contagious. I knew I wanted to have the energy and passion that SOAR leaders enveloped, so since my own SOAR, I’ve looked forward to being a SOAR leader,” Dingley said.

The new students return for Viking Venture Aug. 16-20 and classes start Aug. 21.
