Viking Adventures

On Aug. 16, newly minted Vikings filed onto campus armed with name tags, schedules and other college necessities to begin their life at Berry.

These 599 students had the chance to familiarize themselves with the campus and their classmates earlier this summer at Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR), the first leg of their orientation program. Now moving officially onto campus, upperclassmen “Berry Bellhops” helped the new Vikings move into the residence halls. Viking Venture, part two of orientation was now ready to begin with an afternoon Welcome Ceremony.

During the ceremony, Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students Debbie Heida welcomed the new students with open arms and inspiring words.

“We are in this community together, poised to make it a great one – one that supports you in your successes and props you up in your failures,” she said. “Our campus tagline to promote the Vikings is ‘No one rides this Viking ship, we all row.’ We are in this together – we learn together, work together, live together, serve together, we have fun together.  Let’s row together for a splendid year!”

The rest of Viking Venture was filled with new friends and new memories with events like “Rage in the Cage,” a scavenger hunt, the annual “New Faces Talent Show” and the crazy Slip-n-Slide on Mountain Campus.

“I love Berry; everyone’s so close already,” said Rachel Mohd, from Birmingham, Ala. “You can just say hi to anyone and it feels like you know them!”
