Berry College says Goodbye to Music Professor through Song

Berry College will hold a concert in honor of retiring music professor Stan Pethel at 3 p.m. Sunday (April 3) in the Ford Auditorium. 

Pethel has taught at Berry since 1973 as a professor of music. He has served as chair of the Visual and Performing Arts Department, but will retire at the end of this year. The Berry Trumpet Ensemble, the Concert Choir, and Jazz and Wind Ensembles will perform Pethel’s works written during his 43 year tenure at Berry. They will be directed by Berry conductors Adam Hayes, Paul Neal, John David, and Lauren Wright, as well as Berry alumni Glenn Eernisse, Gene Greer, George Barnett. Pethel will also be making appearances on the stage as conductor and a trombone soloist. 

Pethel is an accomplished composer and arranger with more than 1,200 works in publication with 26 different publishers. His writing includes works for choir, piano, organ/piano duet, symphonic band, jazz ensemble, orchestra, handbells, solo instrument and piano, and various chamber music ensembles. He is a regular recipient of the ASCAP Standard Award.
