Flint Water Crisis Panel Tuesday

Berry College will host a panel discussion to spread awareness of the current Flint, Michigan lead-tainted water crisis Tuesday (April 19) at 6 p.m. in the McAllister Auditorium, room 119.

Berry faculty and Rome community members will be on the panel sponsored by Berry Multicultural and International Student Programs and the Year of Service Cultural House.

In April 2014, due to budget cuts the state of Michigan decided to temporarily switch Flint’s water source from Detroit’s system fed from Lake Huron to the local Flint River. The switch was to be temporary, but has since triggered a change in water quality that has thrown Flint into a state of emergency. Elevated levels of lead have been found in children's blood, with lead contamination linked to learning disabilities and other problems. The panel will not only delve into the details of the water crisis, but also discuss possible consequences and solutions.

The event is free and open to the public.
