The Berry College Jazz Ensemble Performs Oct. 21

ROME, Ga – The Berry College Jazz Ensemble and the Jacksonville State University Jazz Ensemble will perform together at 7 p.m., Oct. 21 in the Moon River Room at Dark Side of the Moon in downtown Rome.

The musicians will perform classic big band tunes by Count Basie and Duke Ellington and rock tunes arranged for jazz ensemble by Radiohead, Foo Fighters and Journey. The program will end with classic Latin Jazz. This event is free and an all-ages event.

The concert is on a Monday night, which is the traditional big band night at the Village Vanguard in New York City.  The jazz ensemble is bringing this tradition to Rome with hopes to establish a new musical experience for the band and our community.  Desiring the “Jazz Club” effect, Director John David felt Dark Side of the Moon would be the perfect location.

“Dark Side of the Moon is the type of setting where jazz was created, and I think that is where it still lives and breathes the best,” David said.

The Berry College Jazz Ensemble is one of the premier performing ensembles at Berry and has been a part of the music program for over 40 years.  The group is renowned for its tight and energizing performances, outstanding soloists and talented student arrangers.
