An acclaimed poet Jericho Brown will present work from his latest poetry collection at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 in McAllister Hall Auditorium at Berry College.
Brown will read and discuss poems from his third and newest collection, “Traditions,” in which he combines multiple poetic devices to evaluate love and violence in today’s society. While reading, Brown will provide commentary on the process, aesthetics, and themes of his poetry. Berry’s Creative Writing Reading Series, created by Dana Professor in English Sandra Meek, has hosted readings every semester since 1998 and now averages three to four per semester. Meek met Brown six years ago when he emailed complimenting her work.
“I’ve met a number of poets over the years who have met Jericho this way—he’s not only an incredible poet, but he’s also a generous reader who cares about the writing community,” Meek said.
Brown is an award-winning author of three books, “Please,” “The New Testament” and his latest work, “Traditions.” He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and more. Brown is an associate professor and director of the creative writing program at Emory University.
