New Solo Exhibition Featuring Exotic Spices Opens at Berry College

Berry College opened its latest exhibition and hosted an artist talk on Oct. 25.

Stephen Watson’s “Dust Ye Shall Be” is a temporary installment of complex geometric designs created with various spices aligned on the floor. Spices used throughout the exhibition include chili powder, cinnamon, curry powder, lavender and sage. The goal of the exhibition is to create a distinctive sensory experience through the repetition of similar elements with new combinations.

Watson’s previous solo exhibitions include “Over and Over, Again” at Roundhouse Gallery at Jacksonville State University (Jacksonville, Alabama), “Nearly Nothing” at The Museum of Art at Pittsburgh State University (Pittsburgh, Kansas) and “Patterns of Devotion” at Barrington Center for the Arts at Gordon College (Boston, Massachusetts).

Watson has an M.A. of fine arts in studio art from the University of Alabama and a B.A. in studio art and minor in Christian ministries from William Baptist College (Walnut Ridge, Arkansas). Watson now serves as an associate professor at Samford University’s School of the Arts (Birmingham, Alabama).
