Berry Theatre Company Presents “Chicago”

The Berry College Theatre Company recently performed the Tony award-winning musical “Chicago.”

With music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, “Chicago” is Broadway’s second longest running musical. “Chicago” takes a critical look at the justice system during the Jazz Age, following two murderesses, Roxie and Velma, as they both vie for fame that could sway public opinion in their favor.

Sara Blakely, an elementary education major from Lawrenceville, Ga., played Velma in the show.

“I love how much confidence Velma has. She knows who she is, and she tries to use that to her advantage. I get to be this person with so much confidence and is unapologetic about it,” Blakely said.

Jake Patton, a freshman theater major, was one of the assistant stage managers for the production.

“My favorite part of this production is getting to work with all of the wonderful cast and crew members! The most challenging part is learning how to work with the technology when it malfunctions,” Patton said.
