Senior Beth Anne DeKeizer came into Berry with a dream of becoming a museum curator. After testing the waters as a curator at Oak Hill and the Martha Berry Museum, she learned that it wasn’t where her passion really lies. Thanks to connections she developed at Berry, Beth Anne started working behind the scenes for the student-run multimedia website Viking Fusion, and began to find her passion.
As a history and visual communication double major, Beth Anne recently directed, researched, produced and edited a documentary, “Over the top for Berry and Country,” the Berry Schools during World War 1.
She began researching the Berry Schools during World War 1 two years ago with Berry Professor of History Matthew Stanard when a member of the Rome community requested information on some Berry boys who fought in the war. The simple request turned into a 25-page research paper and later a documentary to honor the 100-year anniversary of the end of World War 1. The primary focus of the documentary is to learn more about the Berry boys, specifically the 11 who lost their lives, fighting in the war.
Beth Anne found her passion for telling stories and connecting with people through film. “Without Berry, I wouldn’t have realized that is what I want to do for the rest of my life,” she says.
