Getting a kick out of education

Comforting new freshmen was the perfect job at Berry for education major Megan Radosta.

Megan’s people skills flourished from day one. As a freshman, she began working in the Office of Admissions as a tour guide. She then served as a Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR) leader, introducing incoming students to the Berry community.

“As a SOAR leader, I was most definitely given a once-in-a-lifetime experience to meet some incredible people that I may not have met otherwise. I got pushed outside of my comfort zone in almost every way possible,” says Megan, who graduated in May and is headed to Carmel Elementary to teach kindergarten.

Megan’s hard work earned her accolades during her time at Berry. She received the DAR Student Teaching Award for Community Service, demonstrating her outstanding service in the Rome, Ga., area.  Megan also was awarded the Vesta Salmon Service in Education Scholarship and served as an officer of the International Education Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi.

Berry athletics served as a focal point for Megan throughout the last four years. She was a member of the Varsity Women’s Soccer team, and had the opportunity to lead her fellow athletes as president of Athletes Bettering the Community. She also served as committee president on the Southern Athletic Association Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Megan was not short on mentors on the world’s largest campus. Her support team included Assistant Athletic Director Ginger Swann, soccer coaches Lorenzo Canalis and Eric Gentilello, professors Fran Roe and Eliana Hirano, and of course, her fellow soccer players.

“All of these people have challenged me, supported me and explored this beautiful campus with me,” Megan says. “I am so grateful for every single person I have come in contact with at Berry who has even made the slightest impacts on my life, for my experience at this school would not have been the same without them.”
