Karen Bachus began her position as the director of the Berry College Child Development Center on July 1, 2016. She retired after 31 years of teaching many different grade levels, including kindergarten, fifth grade, middle school and high school. Her most recent high school position was as a teacher of Early Childhood Education, where she supervised high school students as they taught three- and four-year-olds in a school-based preschool. Ms. Bachus first came to Berry College when her high school students visited with Mrs. Tankersley and classes at the CDC.

Ms. Bachus is responsible for all aspects of the daily operation of the Center, including curriculum, budget and enrollment. She is looking forward to continuing work with the teachers and exploring new directions in preschool curriculum. There are plans to include more technology for both the children and teachers and new and different training for the teachers in order to maintain the highest educational standards. Most importantly, the Child Development Center will maintain its accreditation by Bright From The Start: The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning.

“Our children and teachers are so blessed to be able to learn in this wonderful environment…the most beautiful campus in the world. The dedicated faculty and staff at the center work hard to educate the children and nurture them in this warm and caring environment. Two of the greatest strengths we have include the student workers and the invaluable support of our families. We are fortunate to have the resources as a laboratory school within the Charter School of Education and Human Sciences.”

Ms. Bachus welcomes calls and visits and will be happy to answer email inquiries (kbachus@berry.edu) about the Center.
