Mountain Day - PARENT Info

Parents are an important part of the Berry Community and we look forward to your participation in our Mountain Day celebration. Please join us for these great Berry traditions!

FRIDAY

Mountain Day Olympics are held on Evans Lawn and are sponsored by KCAB. This is one of our largest student events of the year. Residence halls, commuters, and faculty and staff compete in “field day-type” events, such as egg toss and tug-o-war, for the title of Olympic Champions. Prior to the Olympics, each team participates in a parade down Opportunity Drive during which team “themes” and t-shirt designs are revealed. Families are welcome to watch the Olympics in the designated spectator areas.

KCAB’s Mountain Day Talent Show takes place Friday evening in the Ford Auditorium with cash prizes awarded to the winners. Tickets are sold at the Campus Information Desk the week prior to the event.  This event typically sells out so make sure your student purchases tickets in advance!

SATURDAY

First Year Parent's Breakfast will be held Saturday morning in the Krannert Spruill Ballroom and is hosted by the Dean of Students Office and the Berry College Parents Council. Additional communication and RSVP information will be sent via email to parents prior to the weekend.

The Picnic & Grand March are held on Mountain Campus. Several thousand people attend this event. Students, faculty and staff can enjoy a FREE picnic lunch with Berry ID and ticket, which can be picked up at the Campus Information Desk during the week prior to the event. Guest meal tickets may also be purchased at the Campus Information Desk for a discounted price or day of at the picnic site at full price. Families are also welcome to bring their own food for the picnic.

Traditionally, students who elect to participate begin lining up around 12:45 p.m. They wear specific colors based on their class year and have pennies ready to drop in the basket at the base of the hill. This tradition celebrates Berry’s history and the required uniforms that students used to wear based on classification.

Prior to the march, students, alumni, family members and other guests are treated to a concert performed by the Berry College Symphonic Band.

Marthapalooza is the main student event for the weekend and takes place from 10pm until 2am in the Clara Bowl. This event includes carnival rides, booths and games, food, live music and overnight camping. Students get in FREE with ID and event wristband, which is distributed the week prior the event.  Guest tickets for Marthapalooza may be purchased the week prior to the event at the Campus Information Desk or at the event entrance gate.
