Scholarship Auditions

Admission into the music program is delegated through an audition process. If you wish to be considered for a music scholarship or plan to participate in the music program as a major, minor, or ensemble performer, you should plan to schedule an audition. 

The music program offers auditions in the fall and spring, as part of large audition dates or as part of a visit experience that may include observing music classes or rehearsals, eating lunch with a current music student and meeting with faculty. You will have the opportunity to request an audition through the MyBerry student portal beginning this fall, after you have submitted your application for admission.

The following requirements are expected at auditions:

• Strings - Two contrasting etudes, or two movements from solo literature. All-State audition material is acceptable.
• Winds - Two contrasting etudes, or two movements from solo literature. All-State audition material is acceptable.
• Percussion - Demonstration of All-State level material on two different percussion instruments – one musical selection on each.
• Vocal - Two contrasting pieces from the classical repertoire. Memorization and one foreign language piece is recommended, but not required.
• Piano - Two contrasting movements/pieces from the classical repertoire. Memorization is recommended, but not required.
• Viking Drumline - Rudiments: Double-stroke Roll, Single-stroke Roll, Flam Accent, Single Paradiddle; and a prepared solo or etude on snare drum.

Auditions are required for students to be considered for eligibility of scholarships and other department-sponsored financial aid. Academic standards and ensemble participation must be upheld in order to maintain departmental grants and scholarships. Music scholarships may be renewed and are reviewed annually by music faculty.
