Ask Me About

Anything about internships! Where to search, when to begin looking, best practices for preparation, goal setting, developing your NACE competencies, and more.

Need a brainstorming partner or sounding board? My door is always open to come by and talk about life. I love helping college students figure it all out! Life can be full of unexpected twists and turns. That’s the awesome, fun part of the journey! Don’t stress and know that you’re not alone. Come by to share your questions, success stories, and challenges. I’d love to get to know you better and support you along the way.

Favorite job as a college student

My favorite job was serving as the Editor-in-Chief of Ramifications literary magazine for Berry’s communication department. I learned so much about building teams, training staff, project planning, publication design, and Adobe software programs. Those experiences shaped my future career opportunities working for a yearbook publishing company, and as a communication and journalism professor and student media advisor.

Childhood career ambition

As a child of the 1980s growing up in Massachusetts, I was fascinated by the movie “Jaws” set just outside of my hometown. I dreamed of becoming a marine biologist until I moved to Florida and had an encounter with a shark that caused me to realize that marine biology was definitely not my calling!

Favorite spot on campus

That’s a toss-up between the halls of the Laughlin building with its signature scent and creaky floors and Frost Chapel where I married my husband (also a Berry grad) after college. Both of those buildings hold such special memories for me and feel like book ends to a time in my life when I was learning, maturing, and starting my adult life.

Favorite Assessment/Career Search tool

I am a DISC Model of Human Behavior advocate. I became certified in DISC many years ago and have used it in my personal life to better understand myself and others, in my college classrooms as the missing chapter of many textbooks on communication and with my student work teams. I love the lightbulb moments that people have when they go through DISC workshops and use what they have learned to become more effective communicators.

Favorite quote

“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” – Zig Ziglar

Favorite thing about working with Berry students in the cppd

I love watching students grow in their confidence, skills, and success. There is nothing more rewarding to me than knowing that I was able to help someone achieve their goals and build a satisfying life for themselves.
