An internship is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting. If you plan to do an academic internship for credit, understand the requirements, follow the process and complete the necessary paperwork with a faculty internship advisor.
- Students must be junior status (completed 60 credit hours) and have at least a 2.6 GPA to participate in an academic internship.
- Each academic CE requires 45 hours of experience in the field with the students selected host organization (i.e. - 3 CE’s equate to 135 internship field hours)
- Our office hosts internship workshops each semester, works with students to research ideas, provides resources/contact information, and helps students navigate the paperwork process. Students are also encouraged to talk with faculty in their major to explore other avenues for internship opportunities.
- Students must secure a faculty academic internship advisor (does not have to be their academic advisor) to oversee the experience. This person will provide syllabus, determine academic components and learning outcomes, provide feedback, etc.

Summer Internship Scholarships
Internship scholarships are available for funding various aspects of summer internships, through the generous support of Berry alumni. Applications for these competitive scholarships are available each spring semester through Berry College Career Development. The Jim Clark Internship Scholarship is awarded to students in any major who have secured an unpaid summer internship for academic credit. The scholarship will cover tuition costs associated with a 3 credit hour academic internship.
The Jack and Karen Horrell Nonprofit Internship Scholarship is awarded to students in any major that have secured an unpaid summer internship in a nonprofit, social welfare, or social service organization. The award amount will range from $1,500 to $2,000 depending on the needs of the student and the number of applicants.
The Board of Visitors Internship Scholarship is awarded to students in any major who have secured an unpaid summer internship for academic credit. The scholarship will cover various costs associated with a 3-credit hour academic internship.
