Roatan: Summer 2018

Day 13 - June 14 - Lab Exam, REEF Survey and Coral Farm Part II

We started the day by helping Jennifer (Lab Director) process more corals (Elkhorn this time) to hang on our trees. Afterward, our first dive of the day was to the coral farm, and again the students helped hang the coral fragments and clean the existing coral pieces. Our second dive of the day was a drift dive, and we saw many species of fish (including 5 or 6 Lionfish), a turtle and large moray eel. After lunch the students took the first part of the lab exam. This was held out on the reef, and the students had to snorkel to the various stations to provide answers on their slate. It was a unique experience for most of the students. After the snorkel part of the test, it was back to the classroom for the remainder of the exam. After dinner, it was off to study for the final written exam that will be tomorrow morning.
